Visible Creatures

Learning to identify birds isn’t very difficult. The main attributes you need are being patient and observant. A good field guide comes in handy. My favorite is Birds of the Great Plains, by Bob Jennings, Ted T. Cable, and Roger Burrows, published by Lone Pine Publishing International. Lone Pine has a whole series of nature books for various regions of North America. Cornell University has many birding courses as well. A pair of binoculars makes identification easier when you are learning. You can also document your finds with a digital camera. I am currently using a Nikon D3500.
